The author has used a container div and given it a css styling of :

   zoom:1;
}

WHYYY ??? I understand how this property works , but don't quite get it why people use it. is it for some cross browser issue thing ??

For broken IE < 8

If you just have to support IE7 and older, it is a safe means of triggering hasLayout, which is roughly what the real block formatting context is. See On having layout

I see it being ridiculously overused, much like the various clearing hacks.
