Hey All,

I know this is waaay off-topic but i didnt get a reply on the apachefriends.org so thought i should ask around here.

Been using XAMPP on windows for the past 5-6 years, on mac for a year. Today i faced a problem that i have no idea, how and why it started.
Like i said, have been using XAMPP for the past 1 year on MacBook Pro - Snow Leopard. Today when i started XAMPP, i faced this error.

[error] (2)No such file or directory: could not open mime types config file /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/mime.types.
Configuration Failed

So, i checked the folder and the file wasnt there (no idea how it got deleted). I replaced it with a file i downloaded from the Apache site, but even that wouldnt work.

How do i get XAMPP to start working again?

Regards,
Mihir.

I'm showing my ignorance

I'm showing my ignorance here, but I thought OSX was a Unix type os. If it follows POSIX standards, there should be a copy of mime.types in /etc. Several applications use the file besides Apache. In the normal course of events, there may be triple redundancy. The default file at /etc/mime.types, the application config where you mentioned, and finally /home/[user]/.mime.types.

You may want to inspect your httpd.conf file to verify where it wants the mime.types file to live.

See also mod_mime TypesConfig Directive.

Of course the simplest fix may be to re-install. Save your virtual hosts file and any other config files you have personalized before doing so.

cheers,

gary

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

Thanks!

Hey.

Well i didnt want to play around with re-installing XAMPP (worrying i might lose mysql data), i decided to try around replacing that file with another mime.types. I installed xampp on a Windows pc and copied that file back to my mac osx xampp folder. And it runs! First things first took a complete dump of the mysql.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Regards,
Mihir.
