just signed up for Web Visum, a (currently Firefox-only) extension that uses community-driven tagging to help make the web more accessible! I'm using it right now with JAWS while I type. Users log in, and can take for example links or buttons without proper labels and can write their own. What you type is submitted to Web Visum (http://webvisum.com) and anyone else using the program who comes across that site can use your labels. Other users can also edit your labels and you can edit others' labels.

Example, the DONATE button here at CSS Creator in the sidebar just gets read out as "Submit" which means nothing. I've just labeled it "Donate via PayPal" and now when focus is on that button it'll read that out, as if it were title or alt text. This is freaking awesome.

I initially signed up for Captcha reading. You can hit ctrl+alt+6 to send the captcha on the page to a server for a solution. To prevent spammers from abusing the server, only members can use the service, and currently they have an invite system so members can vouch for new members "this person isn't a robot or a spammer".

Since tags are community-usable and community-editable, this could be the next step towards the accessible web. We would like pages to be better written, but we all know how difficult that is to get across to folks building web sites.
This lets users take accessibility into their own hands on one level.

It won't take long until some

It won't take long until some moron is invited, afterall it is the web and we can all have alter-egos. Then they will run some super script to destroy all the communities hard work. That's how some people get their frills, but I like the concept.
