Hi all,

I've built a Wordpress site, and I'm having some rendering problems in, you guessed it, IE.

Basically, all I really want is the whole page centered. Not sure how to accomplish that in IE.

It's been suggested to use a doctype to fix some of these problems, like centering divs, but when I use the doctype;

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

or variations of them, some images are being shifted randomly. Also, text has gone missing or is shifted as well.

Any ideas on how to accomplish centered divs without using the doctype? If possible, I'd also like my menu to be horizontal, instead of a list vertical.

Thanks in advance, regards

Note: I initially posted whole chunks of code (CSS) but found it irrelevant afterwards. I can still post code if needed.

Hi SJTR, These day's you

Hi SJTR,
These day's you should only need to use this doctype:

<!DOCTYPE html>

Validate you code, HTML and CSS so browsers render in compliant mode.
I assume you read this: CSS Centering horizontally.

If you still don't get it working post a link.

So I should just use this:

So I should just use this: at the top of my document? Nothing added?

I did a check for my website to validate, but unfortunately I was encountered with a dozen errors. I don't quite understand what they mean to be honest.

Will post a link soon as I can, don't want it to be indexed yet as it's still got dummy text. Thanks.

Right

So I tried it out but it gives me the same result as when I would use the code I tried (and posted in first post) initially.

The icons I have at the top right corner will shift to the left and some text as well and some other text even disappears. I don't understand why this happens.

I guess I'll post a link in time to provide some more insight, as soon as I got the dummy text replaced.

Linking

Posting a link here will not get the page indexed if you don't use the site name in the link text.

All links on this site are specified no-follow, but mention of your site's name will cause the forum's page to be indexed to your site.

To post a link, use the following template:

<a href="http://mysite.com">see my page</a>

cheers,

gary

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.
