Responsive design can't get a max-heght to take

There is a video that looks fine and scales down to mobile and tablet fine.

The issue is on a iphone 5 & ipad when I turn the device so it is landscape the width of the video stretches to fit and it's too large height wise.

I am trying to get the video height to max out at roughly 75% of the screen height, but unfortuantly with the height and width set to auto (As required by the vidoejs viewer for responsive), I cannot get this figured out.

any ideas?
