Am I doing something wrong, or is this just a Chrome bug?

Overly ambitious

Table-cell and inline-block should both shrink-wrap their content. It appears Chrome squeezes a little too much air from the element. Can you declare a width for the table-cell element? I'd use em measures in case the visitor re-sizes the text. I tested with the 500-600px range with good results.

cheers,

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.
