I have a couple of problems with IE8 on a Joomla site. I have tried for weeks now to Google a solution and I can't seem to get to the bottom of it.

In both cases the site works great on FF.

Problem 1: IE8 - http://www.turkishlocalnews.com/portal/local-news

Each story in the local news has a Created Date and Last Updated Date that shows above the article and below, respectively. (see the site in FF for the true appearance).

The code for the dates are:

<table class="contentpaneopen">
<tr>
	<td valign="top" colspan="2" class="createdate">
		Thursday, 01 April 2010 00:00	</td>
</tr>
[Article]
<tr>
	<td colspan="2"  class="modifydate">
		Last Updated on Friday, 26 February 2010 16:43	</td>
</tr>

The CSS is :
.createdate {
height: 20px;
vertical-align: top;
font-size: 10px;
color: #999;
font-weight: normal;
vertical-align: top;
padding-top: 0px;
}
.modifydate {
height: 20px;
vertical-align: bottom;
font-size: 10px;
color: #999;
font-weight: normal;
text-align: right;
}

Problem 2: FF - http://www.turkishlocalnews.com/portal/kb

When you are not logged in as a member and try to visit this page in FF the login box should appear to ask you to log in. It's in the source code and it appears OK in IE. In Firefox it just doesn't appear on the screen.
