Check your conditional

Check your conditional comments, some of them don't look correct.
Try taking them out altogether to see if the images show up.

The conditional work, as only

The conditional work, as only the top image will show up when looking through ie6, its almost as if the ie6 reads only the top layer of script and ignores the rest

(--this image shows up

#alImg1 img, #alImg2 img { filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=0); }
#alImg1, #alImg2 { display: inline-block; }
#alImg1 { filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='home.png');
position:absolute;
left: 347px;
top: 69px;}

I have swaped it for the one below and that only that image showed up,???? if no conditional comments, the page displays as if it has no css file directing the layout?

If you have a look at the

If you have a look at the code posted at top you will see you are missing a double quote, width=244".

<![if !ie 6]>
<img class="bannerhome" src="homefruit.jpg" width="708" height="1110" alt="ava secretarial"/>
<img class="sarahome" src="sarajubbbhome.png" width=244" height="66" alt="ava secretarial"/>

Then the source in IE6 throws in: width="244""

<![if !ie 6]>
<img class="bannerhome" src="homefruit.jpg" width="708" height="1110" alt="ava secretarial" />
<img class="sarahome" src="sarajubbbhome.png" width="244&quot;" height="66" alt="ava secretarial" />

Good chance that is the cause of your problem, if not just comment out sections of your css file until you find what is causing the problem.

That's because once you've fixed it, you still have to load it to the host for us to see what's going on Wink

Like Deuce I took the website from the code above and then revalidated it - the errors (and malformed conditional comments) are still there.

Mods and gurus – THANK YOU!
For your time, knowledge and experience so willingly and generously given.
Please come back tomorrow and sort us all out again Smile

When you provide a link,

When you provide a link, that's what we'll always use for preference - no need to post the code as well ( and when you do please wrap it in < code > < /code> tags (without the spaces)

So we click the link and it takes us to sarajubb and we hit the "validate html" in the developer toolbar and if it doesn't validate, things stop right there. As they did yet again and this time I took a picture for you.

If the site passes validation, it's then a simple matter to look at the code via Firebug.

The code in the site at the (new) link doesn't validate.

Not really that helpful smee,

Not really that helpful smee, to be honest I find your attitude a bit whiny and somewhat smart arse.

This code won’t validate because it is a hack

#alImg1 img, #alImg2 img { filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=0); }
#alImg1, #alImg2 { display: inline-block; }
#alImg1 { filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='sarajubbaboutme.png');
position:absolute;
left: 347px;
top: 69px;}
#alImg2 { filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='natureapathy.png');
position:absolute;
left: 345px;
top: 120px;
}

The problem was a test to see what kind of people reply to help Msg's, people who actually help or people like yourself, who pretend to sit on some kind of coding throne and miss the really small things!
All that was missing from the html document was one word

Look I took a picture for you

(with)

now it all works, Thanks for all your helpful sarcasm!

Check your conditional comments, some of them don't look correct.
Try taking them out altogether to see if the images show up.

They still appear wrong!
If you are using that type of reverse comment [if !IE] then you should hide it from validation it needs to surrounded in sgml comments; conditional comments are proprietary and written as you have done they are invalid code, the validator and sane modern browsers do not need to see them IE will still read through the comments and parse the CC.

I'm worried and confused by the approach being used here, there seems to be far too much over reliance on splitting code, far more than I have ever felt necessary to do.

If we are simply dealing with the png issue then generally it would be sufficient to feed your normal styles to ALL browsers, then where IE crumbles and falls apart we simply state a new style sheet with minor adjustments in and ensure that this style sheet is last in the cascade so that it's styles will overwrite any that have already been parsed, thus as long as you repeat a selector set but stating the aplha filter property that ought to be sufficient.

Don't get too wrapped up in Conditional Comments or you page is going to be too hard to follow.

mgnuk please refrain from comments such as the above, I did not read any attitude that could be described as 'Whiny' or 'Smart Arse' and these phrases are in themselves insulting.

People are attempting to help you and even if you read into that something keep it to yourself unless it's utterly overt in which case you contact a Moderator to intervene.

Aaaaw diddums...just because I wouldn't answer you via PM?

It should be VERY helpful to you. I'm telling you what folk here on the forum do (validate) to make sure they're dealing with correct code to begin with and not wasting their time. If the code doesn't validate, no help is usually forthcoming until it does. No matter how much ruddy code you post! (<---this is a very helpful point whether you realise it or not)

The code does not validate!.

Why? because the conditional comments sniffing IE6 are incorrect syntax.

But you have come here asking for help and have decided the problem is in a particular other place *shrug* Enjoy! Smile

ETA: validate the HTML not the css

Really? Good Grief! :rollseyes:

ETA: just as a side comment...I use FF3/Mac OS X usually but I did fire up virtual box and look at it with IE6/XP - you do know that the ONLY thing that shows on the page then is the quote don't you?

I'm sorry Hugo, you seem a

I'm sorry Hugo, you seem a decent guy, and you actually seemed to notice the " missing from the 244width but alas you all missed the solution missing from the end of the code in my html. All I’m saying fellas is maybe you’re the snizzle in the corp world but remember when you where a beginner? all your comments would be no help what so ever, sorry if I appear more of a smart arse then smee, but remember if it's a beginners question they will not know what a validation is, nor will they now what wc3 is, they are beginners, means they purchase a book called css for idiots and they copy it, it is our duty to help these people not make them feel stupid, which apart from the Hu and the main main man Duece who actually pointed out the wc3 site to me, it is been abuse and no help? Happy christmas to Sony the only winner!!!!

That's really nothing to be

That's really nothing to be upset over considering everything you complained about is covered at the top of the beginner and how to sections. You shouldn't liken admonishment to abuse.

Relax and realize that Smee was being helpful. Smile There's a whole lot of smart folks here and it's worth it to stick around even if you just read and never post.

And on that note this thread is now closed!

I didn't comprehend much of that last comment, but don't think for a minute that you were made to look stupid or that you suffered any abuse I think that was your interpretation of the thread.

This locking of the thread is not censorship but simply that the thread serves no further useful purpose and needs to be relegated to the archives.

mgnuk if you wish to continue with this question please feel free to start a new thread on the question, starting with a fresh slate as it were. If you have any issue with me locking this thread you may take it up with Tony the forum owner and the only person who may rule on this action.
