Creating linkable images

Hello everybody,

I am trying to make a new website through Squarespace: www.christianklintholm.com

To make it a bit more personal - and more of a total experience - I want to make small icons/images in every corner, that link to a different website.

Now, there is a "Code Injection" space in Squarespace, where you can insert a CSS or HTML code for the header and/or footer. Getting the picture there is not the problem, but making it clickable is. Maybe it's because the image is in the background, or something like that? I really don't know anymore and I need every bit of help I can get

I have tried a couple of different things, but not nothing is working out for me so far. I feel like such a noob!
