Convert SELECT list to buttons

I am working with WooCommerce product page with Variations and don't like the Drop-Down List option.

I want something that looks more like this:

With the Buttons, but want to retain their definition as OPTIONS so the scripting of the site works.

I would like to do this on CSS only to avoid having to get "inside" the wordpress code.
