I've got a content div coloured white, which holds two columns, of which holds Lorum Ipsum text.
At the moment, my content div doesn't appear to be displaying, but the text inside the columns are.

I've tried everything to try and solve this and now I have ran out of options, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here.

I've set the body to be black to help you guys see the content style.
CSS:

body{
background:black;
}

#content{
background: #fff;
max-width: 950px;
min-width: 750px;
position: relative;
min-height:20px;
}

/* Two columns for content */

#content .left{
float: left;
width: 300px;
}

#content .right{
float: right;
width: 500px;
}

HTML:

<div id="content">
<div class="left">
		<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Pellentesque eu augue nec orci eleifend ornare. Etiam malesuada consectetur cursus. Donec neque tortor, ornare at congue eget, suscipit et lorem. Etiam lacinia, velit ut suscipit fermentum, leo arcu gravida augue, nec lacinia orci dolor commodo risus. If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

What they're doing is

What they're doing is suggesting you read my enclosing float elements article. It will explain what's happening with your floats and their parent. After reading and applying the solution{s}, you'll be better equipped to ask for more specific help if you need it.

The rest of the carrying on related to my amazement at showing up as #1 in Google for the search phrase.

cheers,

gary

We are also suggesting that

We are also suggesting that you learn to use google. The link in my message was to the google pages that result from a search on "enclose floats", which was what you were told to do but didn't understand.

Gary's article on the subject is the top hit and you could have saved yourself much time and confusion by simply using Google for a search term you didn't understand. Google is really an essential tool and if you aren't using it, or the search engine of your choice, then you are unnecessarily holding yourself back.

In my case I put in a hyperlink to the results of such a search so all you had to do was to click on the link, and then on the link to Gary's page.

miss kalay knee us--and it hurt

@Ed: The big problem with Googling is the poster may not, more likely does not, know what to query. If we suggest a Google search, we should also suggest the search terms and why. I'd be surprised if anyone with float containment problems would know why he has the problem to begin with.

@Hugo: It's about time someone recognized my genius, and moved me to the head of the class. Tongue

Well, Deuce said "Enclose your floats" and a google search on that very phrase also returns your site as first hit.

I'll take that as fair criticism. In my defense I will point out, sheepishly, that the search term is enclosed in the link, and that if he'd clicked on it, it would show on the resulting google page.

Gary, we all know you are the head of the class here. Goes without saying.

My apologies for the cryptic

My apologies for the cryptic first post causing all of the drama.
But, when it's all said and done; yes, I was referring to Gary's fab-tabulous first result in 'The Googles' whilest querying my initially posted phrase.
