So what's this color wheel rubbish? Is it a real tool or is the fact that you should use common sense when choosing color palletes for your web page?

And how do you use a color wheel? I'm ready to be bombarded with a whole new color vocabulary from print/design that I have never heard.

I don't know, seems to me

I don't know, seems to me like a rule set that has no use. The only thing I can imagine that it's good for is introducing proper contrast between foreground and background colors. I like trial and error better than looking at a color wheel and then ignoring it anyway.

I'm not an artist though and admittedly stupid in the subject.

Color wheel

You dont need it. back in the day there was a web safe color wheel. These were colors that browsers could render properly, and they were few. These days, you can use whatever color you want due to browser support.

I'm sure most any designer will disagree with you.

I think some graphic artists

I think some graphic artists will use the more advanced? colour wheels. For Web work , overkill there are plenty of sites that will produce a colour chart/swatch of harmonies/colour range or whatever from a provided colour if you need inspiration and a colour swatch that doesn't clash

This is interesting: http://colorschemedesigner.com/

I guess it can make some "pleasing" combinations but it just seems so subjective.

Yes, I like that it shows you how bad some of the color schemes really are. Laughing out loud Wink

I like the Mono schemes the best.

Don't Wolves see in

Don't Wolves see in monochrome? you'll probably have little use for colour wheels or swatches really Tongue

As for colour theory or science, colours are a figment of our imaginations they don't exist!

I think the color scheme designer is pretty cool. I like how you can actually click on Light Page Example and Dark Page example and see how the website will pan out. That's awesome, I actually think they could be useful, especially for someone like me who is very pragmatic, not artistic etc.

I think I will save this to my favorites, it can't hurt after all.

Cheers
