Smee thinking out loud again Mr Tony Smile

These have always been something of a problem but seems to be more so since the forum upgrade. Absolutely no one gets it. Probably because unless you're a developer, you have never heard of this term/tag, nor had a need to use it.

It's making an unintelligible mess of posts and causing mods more work.

Also, I think the current button above the Reply box is less than descriptive. Can we try:

Take the button out of it's current position and after the Preview button put
"To post code to the forum, highlight it and press (code button)"

Hopefully there should be enough room in the line. I also think the < code> button was a bit more intuitive than */> seems to be.

What do others think?

cheers,

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

It looks more like a "close all tags" button than a "code" button. I've never touched it for that reason.

I can change the button back

I can change the button back to something that more resembles code and move it after the preview button.
I'm pretty much in holiday mode at the moment, and fly out tomorrow morning, so if I don't get to it today it will have to wait a couple off weeks.

While we're at it

It seems that if you include http:// in the path for images in code pasted as CSS that it wraps the whole thing in anchor tags, as highlighted in this thread.

How to get help
Post a link. If you can't post a link, jsFiddle it.

A max-height on the code

A max-height on the code snippets would be a nice addition as well. Smile

I agree...it's now very awkward at times, I got caught the other day wanting to see the end of a line but having the horizontal scroll about a yard below the viewport and eventually gave up. They used to have a max of about 700 with vertical scroll bars too.

I have changed the code image and help text.
Hopefully that will be clear enough for new users.

Thanks again for pointing out the issue.

Oooh yes....that's much more

Oooh yes....that's much more betterer.

Hate to admit this but I don't think I ever noticed/read the "post new comment" box. It sort of gets lost among all the grey and white...wanna give the box a (very pale) green backgound? Big smile

Or maybe even just nice black text like the Post Reply button at the top of the page.

Welcome back and where are the piccies please.

Ok here's a family holiday snap

Family

I don't have any of myself snowboarding as I didn't want to carry anything hard to land on and most likely smash. Over the next few days I will upload some more photos to the web.

I saw it!

I just flipped over to you on Twitter and saw the link Big smile

OMG...Whose driveway is THAT?

#33 is quite amazing too - like the photo location thingummy...very handy on a trip like this.

Gary...ROFL...you're only jealous Wink

Tony is there anything you can do to bring the old posts into alignment with the new forum? Most that contain code seem to have been parsed and are now basically meaningless Sad

Sorry for hijacking the

Sorry for hijacking the thread Sad(

The driveway is to the cabin we stayed in at Hida Nagareha, The first day we couldn't get the car up the driveway due to ice even with snow tires. The car slid sideways and we were nearly stuck across the path between the two walls of snow. Luckily there was a couple of inches either side so we did a little 100 point turn bashing more room with the bumpers as we went. Then we parked somewhere safer and used sleds to get the luggage up to the cabin.

Fixing the old posts would not be easy. If you point out specific pages I can have a look but we run the chance of bringing them back to the top of the recent post list.

Well you can see an example in Taming the Tabs where Hugo provided some code Shock Wink

While it's probably not worth fixing that if it's going to bring it up the list again, it will serve to illustrate the problem which I've seen elsewhere.

Now...gotta get back to Top Gear Bolivia Special which is hysterical.

Thanks also for the vertical scrollbars!

Yes the banter was good Smile Range Rover must have loved them "World's most unreliable car turns out to be the most reliable" Wouldn't want to have been in that when it had to pass the car on the mountain road though - I think I held my breath the whole time.
