Advice on the html/css layout please.

Hi,
I am trying to build a friend's site; I've been inactive for a wee while in html/css. I wondered whether anyone could offer advice on the css for the layout? I have the logo in place, working on the navigation using coffeecup MenuBuilder, have slideshow (s3slider, unless any better recommendations), but not sure how to do the two side images/3 columns(?). I am also interested in placing products similar to the WP layouts with an image on the left and a description on the right. I really want to get this done and dusted asap as I may be going away in a few days so please any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated...
