I am trying to construct a css file to give the following layout, but I’m having difficulty to get it work correctly.
I can’t believe that my requirements are so special, but somehow I can’t find a similar example on the internet, probably because this layout has a special name which I’m not aware of.

Anyway, here is a picture of what I want.

A standard header and footer with an area sandwiched in the middle. The central area has a three column layout. The left hand column is giving me the headache; I want it to comprise of a header, an area with links (Naviagation, marked in red), then a footer. I’ve marked up the HTML divs with the Ids shown. But I can’t get the red area to expand as the content area grows in height. Instead it looks like this:

Can someone point me to a tutorial that creates a layout similar to the one I want.
