Menu and List Problems

I've been working on making a CSS menu. I used the menu from http://www.w3schools.com/css/tryit.asp?filename=trycss_navbar_horizontal_float_advanced as my form. However, it messes up my other

    lists on my page. Any ideas?

CSS Page :

ul.menu
{
list-style-type:none;
margin:0;
padding:0;
overflow:hidden;
}
li
{
float:left;
}
a:link,a:visited
{
display:block;
width:120px;
font-weight:bold;
color:#FFFFFF;
background-color:#98bf21;
text-align:center;
padding:4px;
text-decoration:none;
text-transform:uppercase;
}
a:hover,a:active
{
background-color:#7A991A;

Help centering header

Hello,

I am attempting to center my header within the brower window so that it retains center regardless of how you pull out the browser window. I've tried many things, nothing seems to work correctly.

Here is a link to the page:

http://thisisponyattack.com/2010/new-nav-with-news.html

All of the CSS embedded in the head of the document.

You can see that I have used {left: 12%;} in the #navigation ul, this doesn't achieve what I'm looking for, only a slight approximation.

The CSS validates 100%

CSS selectors: How to select only first level of li elements?

Hi, never used css selectors extensively, but decided it's time to learn them. I was reading on w3, and figured that > selector should do, but it only works for some things.

Here's sample menu code:

					<mainmenu class="leftF">
						<ul>
							<li><a href="#"><span>Home</span></a></li>
							<li><a href="#"><span>Services</span></a>
								<ul>
									<li><a href="#"><span>Logo Design</span></a></li>
									<li><a href="#"><span>Web Design</span></a></li>
									<li><a href="#"><span>Web Developement</span></a></li>

Having some trouble with my CSS
