Image inside a div doesn’t work using DOCTYPE declaration

I am trying to show images inside two divs.

It works if I don’t use the DOCTYPE declaration (http://csspruebas.comule.com/without_doctype.html ) but if I use DOCTYPE declaration doesn’t work (http://csspruebas.comule.com/with_doctype.html), only it is showed the image of the second div. For other purposes I need the DOCTYPE declaration so how can I show both images using DOCTYPE declaration? Thank you very much for your help!!!

Align Adsense and Text Box

Hi

I'm trying to align an Adsense unit (300x250) next to a box containing text. My text box is 280px wide and the content area they are placed in is 600px in total.
Here is my effort:

I cannot see why the box on the right remains higher than the one on the left.

Here's my HTML:

<div class="one-half first">
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-7724353502851639";
/* SF-Medium-Rectangle-Top */

changing the size and location of an image whilst in hovered state

Im trying to assign a hover state to the nine thumbnail images in the code below;

Ive tried
.thumbs a img:hover {height:100px; width:100px;} to make the image larger but with no joy. any ideas? (im using IE)

eventually I plan to get the hovered state image to appear in the large circle and was thinking along the lines of;
.thumbs a img:hover {position: absoloute; top 150px; left 150px} ?

Image alignment within a div

Hi. I'm just learning html and css. My project is formatting an ebook, and it's looking pretty good so far. My challenge is in aligning the images. I have them each (60 images throughout the book) in a div which includes the caption. I'm trying to get them to align center. They're not all the same width, but none is over 550 px and 300 dpi. My wish is to have each caption also align center, and no wider than its image. Is this possible? I'm having tremendous problems!

Does it matter in what order I place the declarations within the stylesheet?
