Hi,

I am working on a little PHP / CSS software project for myself, so far I only have on page... but would love to know how it looks in Windows and also what people think of the four different designs.

My favourite is the first (black) one...

I am not sure about using the fixed elements on the page, all feedback is appreciated!

Cheers,

Yari

p.s. I am using copy from Jakob Nielsens website for testing, only testing! Too busy to write my own text for testing, and its nice to see how real paragraphs look on the page (even though I've repeated them).

I like the bacl and white ones, not too keen on the orange one.

I like the mac, glass-effect on the header. very nice.

You get a horizontal scrollbar in Opera.

Yari I'm afraid the layout doesn't hold up in IE6, it does not understand position fixed. The menu div is in the flow bellow the text.

Prefer the black design myself, don't go for the colours, a little too brash.

Hmmm, thanks Hugo and Pineapplehead.

I found a fix for IE 6 using CSS fixed, perhaps your could test it for me again Hugo? I only put the fix on the Black css.

As for Opera, I am looking into that too as it happens on mine as well.

Thanks Guys!

It still appears the same Yari I can't see what changes you have made.

For IE6 you need:

* html #head, * html #menu {position:absolute;}

This works with one major drawback and that is you loose the vertical scroll bar completely, the keyboard and mousewheel will still scroll the page though.

I'm not sure off hand of the fix for this but know that these types of layouts are a problem as one is trying to trick things into happening and there are a lot of gotchas involved.

It may help if you head off to Stu Nichols site as he had some good demos of this sort of fixed positioning layout.

Right, thanks Hugo.

Maybe I shall just go with a normal top and menu bar... that scroll down the page like usual. Oh well.

Cheers,

Yari

Hi Again,

Could you take another quick look at this site on Windows IE?

http://articles.phoenixdigital.com.au/

Should be simple floating header and right menu now...

Cheers!

p.s. is there any way to make the right menu div go all the way to the bottom?
