I am trying to create a div whose size changes with respect to the screen size and scrolls the text it contains. The complication comes into play when I put an absolutely positioned footer at the bottom of the page with a fixed height.

Netscape is happy. IE is not.

See the page at http://WayneMosesBurke.com/wmb.html

css at http://WayneMosesBurke.com/wmb.css

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ie div height problem

I got it to look right in both Mozilla AND IE, but the div is still the wrong size...

I did it using info from Big John in another post:

Quote:
My method uses the text in an absolute nested div to trick
IE into not expanding the box. It's a complex fix, but that's
typical when dealing with IE.

However, the inside div is not stopped. If I don't limit its height with a percent, it won't even scroll: the bottom just disappears. At 100% and a bunch of line breaks, you can read all the text, but the scroll bar disappears at the bottom. With any other percent, the look is inconsistent across different screen sizes.

HOW DO I STOP THIS CRAZY DIV???????

This version is at http://WayneMosesBurke.com/wmb2.html

And the css is at http://WayneMosesBurke.com/wmb2.css

Thanks in advance...

Wayne

In case there's any confusion: it's the big red one on the left that says "testing testing testing" that's giving me problems.

ie div height problem

I had a quick look and could not see any answer without rewriting the lot.

Basically you have all your divs positioned absolutely which will always cause problems as they do not relate to each other within the html

You are also struggling with something that has caused may people a headache in the past

Checkout this site http://www.cookiecrook.com/bugtests/fixed.htm whcih asl has another link at the bottom which is worth looking at.
