Microsoft is trying to (or already has) get a patent on emoticons?
I don't know how much hate that generates on the Care-o-meter but it's way up there...
Patented emoticons?

What the b'abstract-deity are these people on? The whole patent system is going to the dogs I tells you.
Patented emoticons?
Worrying that this company should attempt stuff like this, as the article says this is very dangerous. One day one of these joke attempts will be passed by accident and then there will be hell to pay.
Not quite up there with the attempt a short while ago by some asinine company to patent/copyright the Hypertext Link. It was a nice try though, imagine the royalties from that !
Patented emoticons?

Hmm. Let's hope the people in the patent office aren't dumb as Microsoft seems to think they are and can see through it.
It's as ridiculous as Amazon's patent claiming they "invented" suggesting related items to customers. Serious. They filed such an application a few months ago.
