Hi chaps
Wanted: your wisdom please!
I'm in the process of rebuilding my site (again) as although I had it looking like I wanted it - the CSS was way out of control and I'd come down with a case of divitis.
I've chucked a third of the divs in the code and streamlined the CSS/stylesheet switching process and I'm happy with that.
Thing is, I've found this really nice bit of Javascript from Brothercake that keeps the tooltips showing on focus - BUT it takes an extra 2 seconds to download at 56kbps - 10.69 seconds with, 9.76 seconds without.
Keep it or dump it?

Will it degrade gracefully? (I think that's the guru question of import) Ask yourself how it will react if the person has js disabled on their machine & you should be able to answer your own question.

That side of it's fine - If JS is disabled then no tooltips on focus. I'm just worried about adding on extra download time.

I reckon that works out to just less than one second. Brothercake is very good so I assume it degrades OK with Javascript turned off - I vote, keep it

It's the same design - just that I'm no longer using 50 divs per paragraph and my stylesheets no longer have their own gravity fields.
I'll definitely leave the brothercake JS thing in then - I trust you ladies judgement implicitly

LOL glad to hear it. I like its fresh feel.
I myself just overcame a case of divitis which had some symptoms of classitis. glad to hear your recovery is going well
isnt' it funny...as time passes and you learn more, when you go back to old sites you look at your code and are like "hello, what was I thinking?!?" it's good to see progress but I find myself wanting to tinker with my old sites. you have to reach a point where you're like, enough is enough.
but it never is for ones own site is it?

Oh definitely! I suppose I should be pleased that I'm improving (at least I think I am) but, being a control freak, it just leaves me twitchy about sites I did a year ago.
I can't stop fiddling with my site - I'll read an article somewhere and think "hey that's a good idea!" and off I go. *sigh*.

me too! glad I'm not the only one. Just when you think you've got it down you read about some other great idea that would work oh so well on ones own site.

It's not that recognisable - especially once I've had it in Photoshop!
I had my reasons at the time for not picking a Spit or a Hurricane - can't for the life of me remember them now... Might just be fancying something different - the room I work in is pretty much covered in aircraft of one type or another - models, pictures, parts, you name it and quite a few are Spitfires and Hurricanes.

Just to chip in late (as usual) one second on 56k is really not something to worry about, Keep it in!
