did a search but can't find anything on this...

but, I am having problems printing threads on this forum.

You have to print each page on a thread seperately and I have to use IE. (FF crashes...)

not sure if this is easy to achieve on forums or not or whether your template system constrains you.... But why is printing threads hard to do?

s.

Hmm I don't get a problem when printing on FF luckily.

I assume to be able to print the whole thread in one go you would have to rerender the thread with all the posts as a single page. Maybe we need a print this thread button that shows the whole thing as a page.

yeah...that could be a good idea as the thread pages themselves print fine for me. It's just that the theads that I do want to print usually are the really long ones that I would read on the way home or something.

FF might be my problem... it has been acting strange lately.

gleddy - your browser-print crashing problem is more likely to be the fault of your OS print spooler or printer driver than Firefox, especially given how mature Firefox now is.

As for the thread printing: yes you would need to view the entire thread to print the entire thread. But please remember that Tony already spends a great deal of his time managing this forum for us and he has already hacked the phpBB scripts to h3ll and back to keep us happy. Is it really worth asking him to hack the scripts yet again just to save a few 'click and print' actions on the odd thread that runs to more than one page? I'm not trying to have a go at you; it's just that I also hack a phpBB forum about in response to user requests and frankly I sometimes wonder if the users know that looking after the forum is not my full-time job.

Life's a b*tch and then you die!

That's a very good point, it's too easy sometimes to forget the personal effort that Tony puts into keeping this place running for all of us.

It's bad enough when paying clients ask for "quick" changes Wink

I must admit I haven't been too concerned with printing as I don't have a printer connected to my pc.
But I can see how printing certain topics would be good to print.
It's most likely floats causing problems with printing.

When I get a chance I will have a look at it at the moment I have other priorities.

Thanks Roy for sticking up for me.

Printing threads should not crash firefox anymore.
It might not be too pretty though, so save a tree and read online Cool

In IE there is a print option that allows you to print all linked pages etc.
I don't know of anything similar in Firefox.

no, no, no... This thread is called 'site discussion' not 'my site requests'

I am just throwing down my thoughts on my personal daily use of this site (which everyone else is doing?) and with this I know that Tony can read and say,"That's a fine idea" or just say "Man, these guys sure whine a lot"! I think it's best to get ideas out about the site and let Tony be the judge.

I personally do not know the details of the technical work that goes on behind these templates to tweak them and such, but I do realise how much effort Tony puts behind these forums and it does not go unappreciated!! Laughing out loud

anyways thanks for listening Tony and keep up the good work.
