Hi all, could you please do the honours give me your opinions on my music site. I would be interested to hear from dial-up users as well as I am concerned that it may be too heavy for a decent download time.

Thanks all

Oh you're THAT James! Now we know what you both look like - it's nice to put a face to a name (well sometimes anyway!).

It's a lovely site - love the colours/graphics - very calming.

Only thing I can think of to say that I might change would be that because the contact page is quite short the "Contact Me" heading really dominates the page - maybe if you made it just "Contact" or put more on the page (contact form? address?) then it'd look more proportionally harmonious. Just a thought.

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

Thanks for the cool comments, yep she is my wife!!!!!!

I'll probably do a form for the contact page to try and fill it out a bit more along with more content on other pages.

James,

The logo is great and this site will look better and better as content piles up. I definitely agree about the contact page being too short. In fact, the entire site could possibly look cool with 100% height, so that the footer is always hugging the toes of the page. 100% height, although creating more space to fill, occasionally opens up clever background image opportunities that could be worth exploring. Nice job overall, James.

Antibland,

Thanks for the comments and recommendations.
Are there any sites you that use some clever background imaging techiniques just give me an idea what can be done.

It will look better I feel when I have sorted a better way to display the images in the gallery, and possibly the on the music and links pages. Because its my own site it will one of those things I'll just keep tweaking with until happy although its rare that people are ever completely happy with their own creations.

James

Just checked download times - I get 17 seconds on http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ for a 56kbps modem.

The images all seem well optimised - apart possibly from the photo of you which is 54kb! Can you optimise that one any more?

I use PS skinflint (elements) but I understand that proper PS has the ability to keep selected areas in higher quality while compressing the rest of the image - does that sound familiar (I may well have completely invented that...) so you could keep your face in the high quality "zone" while compressing the rest. Interestingly, photos of me usually benefit from the reverse option!!

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

No its meant to quotation marks which I know is &#34. I just haven't got around to sort it yet. I ported the text straight over from a word document.

Cheers for reminding me.
