These sites are both up & running so maybe a bit late to be asking for site checks, but if anyone comes across any bugs in these, I'd appreciate if you could let me know (although I think they all check out pretty well in FF, IE & Opera).

Couple of sites to look over

Hi

It's nice to see something unusual and the GRiT background is very unusual (looks like the underside of my Land Rover!). It's a bit slow downloading on a 56kbps modem (19seconds) but I think that I remember seeing it before and it being much much slower then.

You've got the xml prologue in your HTML on this site (<?xml version='1.0' encoding='iso-8859-1' ?>) which may cause you IE problems - you'd probably be better off removing it.

The Other site is very pretty and calm looking - that's a huge bit of JS at the beginning of the code - hope it does something really great!

Again it's a bit slow (23 seconds).

Haven't checked either for validation - I'm assuming they validate.

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

The mime-type is actually output by a PHP script - IE gets a different one from FF.

Yeah, that's from a Wordpress plugin to create the contact form. Because I'm new to PHP I went for the plugin option to save me having to work it out but it's probably something I should look into doing myself and getting rid of all that javascript.

Ok - cool, as long as it's not going to cause you problems!

Ah I see - just me being nosy!! Is it possible to stick it all in an external JS file? I'm not sure how WP works with this sort of thing.

Actually, I've just realised something. I've been using the TidyHTML Validator plugin for FF for a little while now and have gotten into the lazy habit of not validating pages that TidyHTML gives me the green tick for. I've just checked pure-grit.com and I'm getting loads of validator errors for links including PHP session variables. The thing is, I haven't coded those and when I rollover any of the links, they don't show up in the status bar either. It must be a Wordpress thing, so I'm not sure how to go about fixing it. :?

The thing is, it's not something I've put in personally, it's all automatically generated by Wordpress and I haven't used it enough yet to figure out how or why. Something to add to the 'to do' list.

There must be lots out there on validating this sort of problem - I just found this http://blog.crispen.org/archives/2005/03/09/wordpress-validation-error-work-around/ don't know if it'll help...

It did actually - turns out it's a plugin for outputting site stats (so not anything the user actually sees) that causes the problem. Solution - find another plugin that does the same thing. Thanks for the link. Laughing out loud

You have "© GRiT 2005 ¦¦ XHTLM ¦¦ CSS ¦¦ 508 — Design by Tyssen" on GRiT, I assume you mean XHTML.

I noticed the same thing on another site you have posted.

Everything else looks good.

This is my big chance . . . yep, I blew it . . .
