Well, not quite . . . in three days, I will have been here a whole year . . . wow, doesn't time fly when you're having fun Laughing out loud

According to the profile:

Total Posts: 1696
[4.31% of total / 4.69 posts per day]

aaaah . . . memories Laughing out loud (112 pages . . . whoah)

This one seems to be my first post:

The doctype simply defines the document type. YOu don't need it, although for W3 to validate it it needs to find a doctype.

HTML based sites should use the HTML 4.01 doctype, either strict, loose, or transitional (for frame based sites).

XHTML sites use a nearly identical markup to HTML 4.01, but with the XHTML doctype it screws up with the scrollbar colour property.

Oh, the irony

There's another one in there about eugenematthias.com. Had a loko now - it's been taken over by another designer. Yes, you've guessed it - it's a flash site. Laughing out loud

I wondered why my nice analog dial was waving like mad - then I realised the site has background sound.

Don't worry, it's not spamming, just simply bumping your topic. As long as you do it at least 24 hours apart no-one should mind.

I'll be honest with your site. As a newly converted Firefox user, it doesn't look fantastic, but I'll tell you what I like and dislike.

Looks like I found Firefox around June 6th then Laughing out loud

Then the obligatory three column plus footer layout:

thepineapplehead wrote:
I am trying to start my first tableless CSS only site. Basically I want a header box (width 100%, height 100px); a blue sidebar (width 150px, height 100%); a footer (height 35px, width 100%);, and the rest of the space filled up with the content div.

What I can't figure out is how to have the whole page take up the whole screen, regardless of whether the content div is full or not.

With tables I could just go table height="100%",

And the appearance of the XML prolog:

thepineapplehead wrote:
Remove:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>

It's not needed.

Thanks guys, especially Tony, it's been a great year, look forward to many more Laughing out loud

Well done thepineapplehead. =D>
You have helped many people, and hopefully learnt a couple of lessons in the process.
The last lesson should have been correct use of Announcements Cool

Congratulations!

Still my favourite:

It's the (no offence) that gets me - how could they possibly take offence!

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

If anyone doesn't get the auto ban bit, it's a joke from another forum.

If anyone plays Garry's Mod, there is a forum all about it. The rules there are incredibly strict. If you use shorthand (ie u instead of you), don't punctuate your sentences, etc, you get an autoban.

You also get banned for asking when a new version is out Laughing out loud

Nope I didn't get the reference at all TPH,

Nor do I understand the "Gary's Mod" reference

An in joke that likely as not was completely lost on the majority

(it's ok don't explain further I looked up Gary's mod , a reference to some sort of game )

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

What sort of job are you going for? It may well be worth not limiting yourself to local companies - what about London?

I used to commute from Bedford into London and it was 40 minutes - took me less time to get into work than most Londoners!

Well I'm hopefully looking for a web design job, but at the moment I just need a job to get me money and give me something to do. Even a till worker would be fine until I can get a webdev job.
