Hi,

A new site is up! Laughing out loud

Some says it displays strange in Netscape but I can't see that. Could someone please check it in Netscape preferably in older versions than 8.0.2

It does look as it should in IE6, IE5.5/5.01 (almost), FF, NS8

Hi

Just some general constructive ideas from a pedant, in regard to code, that you might want to take a look at.

1.
<div id="header"></div>

You may want to do this instead.

<h1 id="header"><span>Deejay Jay : Blah Blah Blah</span></h1>

#header span {display:none;}

Search engines will thank you for it.

2.
<meta name="author" content="MPT webdesign" />

You may want to do this instead.

<meta name="designer" content="MPT webdesign - www.mptwebdesign.se" />

The author meta tag, I read, were intended for sites that have much literature, poetry etc. So in this respect the designer meta tag is much more appropriate.

3.
<meta name="robots" content="all" />

You may want to do this instead.

Nothing as this is the default action of the robot/spider so doesn't need specifying. For pages that you want to restrict you could use a robots.txt file. Search engines are starting to ignore the robots meta tag in favour for the robots.txt file.

4.

<script type="text/javascript">
           function open_win(picURL)
		{
		window.open(picURL, "_blank", "toolbar=no, location=no, directories=no, status=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=no, resizable=no, copyhistory=no, width=300, height=300")
		}
	function open_winText()
		{
		window.open("showLyrics.php","_blank","toolbar=no, location=no, directories=no, status=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=yes, resizable=no, copyhistory=no, width=400, height=650")
		}
</script>

You may want to do this instead.

<script src="javascript.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

I know it is only a small amount of js but it would still benefit from being external.

Just them off the top of my head. I will have a proper look tomorrow.

Laughing out loud

you might want to think about increasing contrast with the text at the bottom...if you don't want it to be seen, then leave it off...

nice job with the form...the backgrounds are really slick

no noobs up in this ma'

Took a while to load in on my 56k connection.

Your page is pretty stark. Also, those blues don't really do anything for me. Your layout is ok, you just need more content! And a lot of it. If I'm hiring you for my next frat party, I want to know that you're going to get all of my friends shaking their booty out on the dance floor. As is, your site doesn't show that to me!

This is a good start. Let us know when you get some more content added.

I kind of like the minimalist effect, and I have a thing for the blue background (cobalt?). But just like EOBeav, it did load quite slowly on a dial-up connection and considering the amount of content the pages have, I don't think that will work for you.

Again, I like the way it looks. Laughing out loud

By the way, I checked it out with IE 6 on Windows XP. It seems to be in order.

Hehe, sounds good to me. Regarding the content, thats what I said too but this is what the client wanted... I'm just interested in getting paid. I don't think he is going to use this site to sell him as a DJ. This site is for now only for a CD-release (the address is going on the cd-cover).

But who knows, maybe we will see an as booty shaking site soon.

By the way, does 56k connections still exist? Smile

Actually, yeah it does! Laughing out loud DSL is ~finally~ available in my area. I'm starting to get some paying clients, so I thought that might be a good investment for me. A part of me, though, wants to be able to access pages the same way a paying client would (most people in my area are on dial-up), just so I know first hand what it's like to view it on that connection. More importantly for us web designers, we need to know who is using what out there in the real world: OS, browser, connection, etc...

Yeah thats true. I guess I'm a little spoiled with my 24 mbps-connection. Before that i had a 2,5 mbps-connection for 8 years so I can't really remember using a dialup-connection. Besides that I guess approx. 95% of all user here in Scandinavia uses broadband. Thats why I usually don't care mutch about slow connections.

Go for a fast connection.

Then if you want to know how the little people will view your site, visit this site.

As a developer it should remain permenently in your bookmarks along with the w3c validator, oh yeah and this forum.

You don't have to meet it's requirements spot on but it is a good indication of the general ballpart you want to be in, in regards to download speed, image size etc.
