I'm debugging this site in Firefox and I've run into a couple of problems.

    * If the window is resized to about 800x600, the rightmost menu item disappears completely. Nothing appears to resize for its sake; it just vanishes. How can I avoid this?

* When using the dropdown menus, if the mouse hovers over one of the "left" or "right" columns--which are beneath the menus--the dropdown disappears. So if you use the dropdown but keep the mouse off of the columns, it works as it should. If you mouseover a part of the dropdown that is over a column, the dropdown disappears. I don't understand at all.

The site is http://tony.gonk.net/raw/
and the stylesheet is http://tony.gonk.net/raw/styles.css

Please help . . .

site check (float problem, :hover dropdown problem)

Hi

The right-most menu item isn't disappearing it's wrapping round to the next line. Try playing with the width on the menu items to see if that helps.

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

Mysterious Menus

Thanks for the tip.

So do you know why the dropdowns disappear when the mouse is over both the dropdown and the column?

I think that you may be getting your stacking contexts in a twist with all that absolute positioning, remove the left and right columns in div main and the problem resolves, I'm not sure why your going about the layout using position absolute, everything apart from perhaps the logo should be positioned in the flow, relative,

At the least I would position the two columns within #main floated left and right.

hmm

I floated the divs in main, but the menu still disappears if the mouse is over both as before. On my 1024 laptop res, only the right div appears beneat a dropdown, but the problem is still there, even with their being floated.

argh.

this problem is really bugging me. i've never encountered it elsewhere, and none of the obvious things to do seem to work. is there any documentation on this anywhere? or does anybody else know of a possible solution?

got it.

AHA, finally figured the bugger out. Seems overflow:auto created the issue with the dropdown menus. I still don't know why, but at least I know I can just turn overflow off and work around it that way.

Tell your friends.

Sorry Zearin I managed to miss your follow up posts.

I'm confused as to why floating the two columns didn't work as it did when I tried it :? actually come to think of it I can see why it possibly wouldn't work, oh well so it's fixed then with overflow auto removed ,good stuff.
