http://www.deadhippo.com/

ill probabaly change the name in the future when i make the site bigger
also the photo albums will all be changed to a style similar to the main site
when the site gets a bit bigger Ill also add to the nav bar making it the main header on most of the pages including search bar

any comments regarding anything are welcome
ie. html, css, layouts, colours, photos, headings, nav bars

thanks in advance Smile Smile

Hi there. I like the colours you've used. and your favicon is good too. a couple of things you might like to think about.....

not sure why you've used a table for your nav. you could have done it with an unordered list. would have been semantically correct that way. but most important for accessibility reasons I think you need to make the whole area around the "button" clickable, not just the txt.

are you planning to change the photos around often? or keep them all on the site? if the later it's going to get a bit crowded and confusing. have you thought what system you're going to use?

I don't like the w3c buttons. i think they detract from your overall design. there are other ways of putting a link on your page.

in your post you mentioned about the future and making changes when the site grows. now, obviously you can't foresee everything that will be needed, but there are some element that you could take account of now and I think you're setting yourself up for a hard time ahead if you leave it all for when your site grows.

why change the site name when it gets bigger? surely people will already know it by the name it has currently. It seems confusing and a waste of time. I'm not sure if I like your current name, but I'm veering towards liking it...

anyways, these are just my thoughts. take them or leave them. but good luck!

well-spotted
well, i tried and i tried, i didnt want to use a table, and i wanted to change the backgound color on hover and if i could find a nice scheme possibly on active
but i failed
i had intended to get back to it earlier
my problem was firefox browser kept pushing the text down from the very top and i couldnt stop it, i was almost pulling my hair out so i put it aside
if you have an idea of what the problem was could you advise me
but ill try again anyway

now this too i already see as a problem
i will be adding to the photo albums continuously and i have many albums waiting to be made
this table thing is bothering me but i dont have the experience to know how to deal with it
i thought i would eventually archive the photo albums in some type of list and only keep latest photo albums on that page
i dont know any other way to change the photo albums easily but to physically move each table cell down and to the right to make way for the newer ones, but i know there must be a more efficient way

youre right, ill remove them....i just wanted to show off

well, i was hoping to keep the format but change the external header to include a search bar and links to other things in the site, as of yet pretty much undecided...still in concept stage

i wanted to change the name to something close to the theme of the site and i think while the site is growing it wont have too many visitors to remember the name

currently there are about 45 visits a day whatever that means

no, don't do that. well, remove the ones you have, but make your own ones. hey, if you validate show off by all means Laughing out loud but make it look nice too!

I see why you want to change the name, but why not do it now? come up with something good and stick to it. a site like yours will get round by word of mouth and hopefully links from other sites. if you go around changing your name I think you'll lose some street cred. makes you look a bit hokey.

the one thing I will say (well I guess I've already said more than one thing!) is that I think you need to be more clear on the direction of your site and plan for that. you will pay the price in the future.

thanks for the tips
i managed to get it to work after reading your post - the navBar that is
im not sure what i did wrong the first time

ill definitely check that site out though
the nav has been the biggest nightmare
this was my fourth choice and they all took a lot of time

:oops: :oops: i made those

can someone tell me if their is any extraneous code for my nav bar

#navBar {
	width: 700px;
	margin-right: auto;
	margin-left: auto;
	border: 3px solid #FFFFFF;
	height: 20px;
}
#navBar ul {
	list-style-type: none;
	display: inline;
}
#navBar li {
	display: block;
	float: left;
	width: 138px;
	text-align: center;
	border-right: 1px solid #FFFFFF;
	border-left: 1px solid #FFFFFF;
}
#navBar a:link, #navBar a:active, #navBar a:visited {
	font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	color: #324F58;
	text-decoration: none;
	background-color: #95A7BB;
	display: block;
	line-height: 20px;
}
#navBar a:hover {
	font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	color: #324F58;
	text-decoration: none;
	background-color: #CCD8E8;
}

another issue has arisen
while the nav bar areas have become clickable in firefox only the word is clickable in ie?
can anyone give advice?

Hi deadhippo

To make your links stand out more, you could try something like:

a:link, a:visited, a:active {
color: #127;
text-decoration: none;
font-weight: bold;
}
a:hover {
color: #003;
}

Hope this helps

thanks, ill definitely give it a try
i appreciate the input

*edit

the blue does stand out well, i have to admit that but unfortunately it doesnt match the theme of the site

the other color is similar to black so it doesnt really jump out at you on hover state

thanks for the suggestion though Smile
