Those that have had class with me know about a lil sidejob I have running a promotional company, and booking agency. I promote drum and bass music through one off events and parties. I also manage a group of local DJs, producers, and MCs. I have used Domestic Disturbance as an entity for several projects throughtout my time at AI. I attempted to do a website for DD in Advanced Web Scripting, and the results were poor. I have come a long way since then, and am nearing completion of the new DD site. With that little bit of info, please check out my site, critique the hell out of it. Please share any thoughts, I want to have everthing corrected and updated so I can launch it to the masses this weekend. Thanks! Laughing out loud
This is a site for Domestic Disturbance, a promotional company and DJ crew I run, here in Dallas, TX. I am a multimedia/web development student, and this will mark my first completed website. I love this forum, it has been such a big help. I only hope that in a matter of time, I can become knowledgable enough about CSS to offer as much help as Hugo and many others have offered me. I have two other sites in the works, but I want to finish this one before I really start working on the others. Thanks

here is a link ---> Domestic Disturbance

Here is a short to-do list of things I still need to finish

-create and finalize footer
-add varying artwork for header
-create Marc's Page
-finalize Brent & Lindsay's bio
-add audio to bios
-add javascript validation to booking form
-add new links to links page
-artwork for entrance
-W3C validation

I would lose the intro page. That just puts another barrier between your visitors and your message. Instead, make the "home page" your index.htm page, and link to your forum from there. Your regular visitors will be able to get to the forum in the same number of clicks, and new visitors will be able to find information more quickly.

Once inside the home page, your layout generally looks nice. However, I'm not sure that your colors and city lights theme necessarily go with the genre of music you're trying to promote, but that could just be a cultural deficiency on my part. Just make sure the look of your website is consistent with the clientelle you're trying to reach.

I won't speak to the validation errors as you had already mentioned that being on your "to do" list. I see that your css validates. You can check that one off your list!

You're close to having a winner here. Keep up the good work, and best of luck to you on your venture.

Hi there. I'm not sure if I either really like or really hate you're label name, but hey, won't forget it! don't think your pic goes with D&B music. on the left of the nav bar at the top there is a few pixels of colour which are out of wack.

I'm not a fan of intro pages, but if you're going to keep it you def need to reconsider positioning. I was clicking like a woman possessed until I realised I had to scroll to get to the website link.

there's a big gap in "news updates" that I assume is an error?

and a personal thing, not sure about the gap on the left of the nav, and it being tight on the right. but, as I say it's personal.

I really like the fade effect and headphones on the subtitles. that does go with the content of the site.

I assume you know the links on the forum page don't work.

anyways, mostly little niggly things. for the best part I like the look and feel (bar the pic...it really has to go!). good luck on finishing it up.

Interesting that your pic is of Dallas, yet you seem be nearly all Texas-based. Very appropriate.

Aside from that, other than the awkward links page, my only issue is that you should put up some link in your forums that leads back to the mainpage.

The big lighted ball thingy gives it away. Smile

Your quote speaks of lies. Go look at my original, un-edited post. See, I said Dallas. I def didn't assume NYC cause I glanced for half a second and saw tall buildings and what looked like one of the past years ball dropping balls.

I assumed the "index" link would evenutually lead back to index page.

on that note however, do most users know the index page is the home page? I have no idea...but I don't think all will.

Good point, I am definatly going to change that. Also, concerning the artwork on the header, the current artowrk (cityview pic) is there as a placeholder, the second task on my to do list is to add new artwork up top and on bottom for the footer. I am also going to do different pieces for the different sections of the site. Thank you for your input.

-news updates gap
this is an error, I will check the code today, might have an extra div or something,

-nav gap
I guess it is a personal thing, I like the way it looks

-header pic
it will go this worry, I spoke about my plans for it in my last post

Thank you for your input, official launch will be this weekend!

its the index page of the forum. I can change that if it is confusing. Thanks for pointing that out

Yeah I would change it if I were you, that's one things about forums within sites that annoy me. Linking back to the main site (preferably in the logo) is necessary IMO.

I will make the header(logo) be a link back to the main site, and change the index button to something else(home, main). Thx

Thank you for showing your site. As a former Dallas resident, I recognize it. It is an awesome pic.

I have two comments and a question.

One, I like the centering. Good.
Two, the relatively narrow centering seems to drive really small font, which makes it harder for me to read. Not so good.

But seeing as I'm a George Strait fan and not in my twenties and don't know anything about "DnB"? maybe small font is okay.

Question when I eXit out of your site, then re-enter, the navigation items I clicked before are now non-white dark. Is that what you want?

Question: when I eXit out of your site, then re-enter, the navigation items I clicked before are now non-white dark. Is that what you want?

1. The reason for the small font, is that my design caters to users that may be using 800X600 res and above. I really wish I didnt have to design for that, but this is a piece in my portfolio and the other projects in my portfolio are designed for 800X600 as well. It is one thing that one of my professor stresses that I just don't understand. And he always backs it up with stupied statistics acting like he knows everything about everything. He may be right, but I would rather design for 1024X768 and above. But like I said, until I graduate in october, I have to design for 800X600 for my portolio's sake.

2. I am adding some artwork with turntables and mixers and such, that hint at what DnB is even thought I have no formal explenation. I am also adding audio in each of my crew members bios. I would have to say that since drum and bass music is all we represent, that most users that visit the site listen to that music. I will defiantly take note of what you said, and that not all users will know what dnb is, and do what I can to cater to those users.

3. Yeah I guess I can change the links, the way I have them now they only change color when you hover over them or click on them, but I don't show which links are visited or active.

Does anybody have an opinion on this?

Thanks

My Control Panel, Display, Settings say I'm using 800x600 24bit color on this 15" crt.

Here's what I see. You might have to click that little hamburger at the lower right to see the full pic.

http//beta-154104.server1.dotnetsandbox.net/dd1.jpg

See how the Navigation items are dark. From yesterday. I don't know how that happens.

Here's a presentation from a party. I like parties. (Some of the best I've ever been to were in North Dallas. Lots of bleached-blondes from all over the Arklatex. I wish there were some cool party pics on the front page.)

http//beta-154104.server1.dotnetsandbox.net/dd2.jpg

Anyway, you can see when I try to mouseover the bottom row, then the full image is top-chopped in the display. Not enough room. I'd move the mouseover instruction text somewhere else. Or randomly replace one of the thumbs with a "Mouse Me, Baby!" image or something fun like that. The borders are gobbling-up valuable room on the display as you can see. I'd preload one of the pics into the blank space. Like this

http//beta-154104.server1.dotnetsandbox.net/Default3.aspx

I believe you can make the party pages faster using css and an image map like this. Just slam the thumbs all together, take a snapshot then map the single image. (Please ignore the "mysterymeat three-colored-hair" image map I'm using - it's just a prototype without labels yet). Maybe there's a way to code a redefine of a bunch of contiguous thumbs as a single image map??? Like a class or object or something? Anyone?

You can also do something like this where you throw the pic across the screen to the other side. Maybe adding the illusion of some action going on

http//beta-154104.server1.dotnetsandbox.net/ThreeVertical.aspx

Good luck in school. Keep up the good work.
