I have developed a page layout that uses two div columns: one for "news", the other for "menus". It works fine in Mozilla, but the menu column does not line up beside the news column in IE. The menu div is at the right with a 570px left margin. The news div floats left. This works in Mozilla, but not IE, and I can't figure out why. I've tried different combinations of clear, but I'm stumped.

The html is at http://www.ualberta.ca/~chfraser/css/index.html and the CSS is at http://www.ualberta.ca/~chfraser/css/spork.css

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

column layout problem in IE

After some more tweaking, I got them to look similar enough. I removed the large margin on the static menu div and floated it right. The spacing is out of whack, but at least the two columns are displaying in the right spots in both browsers.

However, I've been told that one should not rely on floating divs as they can have unrealiable behavior. Is there a better (i.e. more compatible) solution to this problem?
