This is a mock-up, conceptual page I've put together to experiment with some rounded images. It's hardly an original idea, but I wanted to see what kind of spin I could put on it. The css validates, but I haven't had a chance to validate the html. And yes, the CoolText header is a little on the cheesey side. I'm just looking for some comments on the layout in general, and particularly the "rounded edge" effect given to the left and right columns. Thanks in advance.

Reminds me a bit of slashdot's site. You do need to finish the validation, as it's pretty close.

As far as the design goes--you said it yourself--the header's not quite right. As someone who struggles with graphics like the state struggles with separating itself from religion, I'm not one to really help on this. I can say that it (the header) cries late 90s and should probably be redone. Apart from that, you need to decide on and implement a navigational scheme. You seem to announce in the left column that the navigation will eventually go here, so go ahead and do it. There are great starting points to work with out there; google 'listamatic' for more on this. Also, I'm finding the text spans too far across the page, making reading a bit laborious. Consider expanding the right and left columns to lessen the width of the center column.

I'm not sure this page is ripe enough to really comment on beyond that. Put a few more hours into it and check back with us.

Antibland and Roy, thanks for your quick replies. I struggled with posting this at all just because I know it's not a "finished" site. My only question really was on the use of the rounded elements to finish off the top of each column. This is actually an SSI Developer layout that I wanted to experiment with. Some of the original text in the columns are still there.

And yeah, I would DEFINITELY change the header were I to use this in a real site. The header that's there right now is just a CoolText thing for demo purposes only.

I'll post this again when it's in show-room shape. Thanks again for taking a look at it. Oh, and thanks for the info on listamatic. I'll take a look at it.

The rounded elements work okay in FF_mac and Safari but they look crude as they are jagged, not smoothed. HTH Smile

Your footer is messed in Firefox - there's a white gap above it, but not in IE.

Also, you should change the body background color to match the footer - when you shrink the page, you get a big white gao at the bottom.
