Hi,

I've noticed that certain fonts don't seem to want to show up in Netscape 7.1 (or Mozilla, I believe) when specified through CSS. They do, however, show up in IE.

An example can be seen at http://www.westeros.org/BoD/ ( CSS at http://www.westeros.org/BoD/BoD-All.css ). I have specified a font called Bucephalus for all headers, and although I do have the font installed, it only shows up when I view the page in IE but not when I view it in Netscape 7.1.

Is there a workaround for dealing with this problem?

Linda

Certain fonts won't show up in Netscape 7.1?

This is a strange issue. I googled for the font, downloaded, installed and did a test page on my machine(XP Pro) and it works on IE 6. Tested on Mozilla and Opera same result as you have mentioned. Did a google again to see what might be the problem and I returned to your thread in an other forum(http://pub44.ezboard.com/fcybercrew74852frm6.showMessage?topicID=486.topic)

Went back and checked the font file I installed and looked at the font type and says it is a "True Type" font whereas all other fonts we use for the web are "Open type". I am not sure if this is the actual cause for the fonts not rendering in the browsers except for IE. Perhaps that could be a pointer for you to research on.

PS. I just learnt -> Open Type fonts are 16-bit fonts which are used to render Unicode data

Certain fonts won't show up in Netscape 7.1?

Interesting. Isn't OpenType also the new font standard introduced with Windows XP? At least, fonts that are Open Type show up as such in XP but not, I believe, in 98.

Not quite sure why Netscape/Mozilla would be picky about whether it is Open Type or True Type, but I guess that might very well be it. Guess I'll have to chase down another font, as I don't imagine this one will be updated for Open Type.

Thanks. Smile
