Howdy to all who might read/help:

I am in the process of designing my "first" webpage. It is going to be a webstore using databases adn .aspx pages etc. I am doing the whole layout in CSS hopefully with no tables. I have just been placing boxes with CSS to get my layout down and then throw I will throw in the images etc.
My questions are:

The content area is 773px wide, but the header is 850px wide. I want to center the page. I first started by defining the body as 773px and then using absolute positioning for the header but that didn't work so good. Without absolute positioning the page is alittle right of center because of the header. Should I just set my body to 850? If so, how do I restrict my content area (which will eventually be a 2-column with leftnavbar and content) to be within 773px? Any other ideas or suggestions?

Also, I don't understand the IE 5/WIN hack with the voice inheret. I have read about it many times, but I still don't know when to use it, what to apply it to, or how it works.

Thanks for any help Laughing out loud

Advice before I get in too deep. 1st webpage 1st CSS.

Do you have a link? Or at least the HTML and CSS?

From what I understand, you want to have the content under the header, centered horizontally to the header?

You can use a simple horizontal centre aligning trick on both elements, which uses margin: 0; on the left and right margins.

As for the IE5.x box-model hack, try looking at the simplified box model hack: http://www.info.com.ph/~etan/w3pantheon/style/modifiedsbmh.html

The next sentence is true. The previous sentence is false. Discuss...

Thanks for the reply.
I have a link now Laughing out loud A note. This page doesn't work so well in IE/anysystem yet. I haven't gotten around to playing with the hack yet. And thanks for that link to the IE/hack. That was the best one I read and I understand now WHY/HOW it works.

css:

I didn;t have a link before as I was just starting and looking for advice in terms of how to go about starting without mucking things up for down the road. This is what I have so far. Everything works really great in Firefox, pretty good in Safari, but not good at all in IE.
