Is there a way to use the < pre > tag but have it word wrap to force it inline?

For instance, I would like to use the < pre > tag to display code, but since the content sits inside a pre-defined width, if the text falls outside of the container width, it will force the entire container to "spill out" and display underneath (as expected).

What I really need is a way have a WYSIWYG text entering where it captures my return carriages, but "word wraps" the text inside the container if it extends past its width.
