I posted here a long time ago and got a site fix and check. Currently we have a site that is ready for realase and was checked a long time ago by all of these great experts here on this forum. Solved all of my troubles! Now... I am experienceing problems with Fire Fox and all of the Mozilla based browsers (i.e. FF, Netscape and Mozilla). Could you please check my site and the CSS Stylesheet. I am getting ready to release the final public version midnight on January 1st. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you very much!
If you need help urgently, it would help us if you could be a little more specific as to the problems that you are experiencing, rather than just leaving it to us to have to hunt them down.
On a cursory inspection The first problem that I notice is that you do not have a complete DTD in place and the page is rendering in "Quirks Mode" you will need to fix this before doing anything else, if your not sure what to do check the "How To" section for links to full DTD's.
Accurate help on problems is largely dependent on knowing that pages are rendering and following correct "Standards".
I'm assuming the "problem" you are referring to is the content breaking out of the div that I saw on one of the pages.
You either have a fixed height in there somewhere or more likely are using floats and correctly FF is allowing them to break through the container. To enclose them you will need a clearing div / CSS method a good example of which can be found on this site, look for "clearfix".
Lastly you really should optimize your graphics they are far too large
the header at 133kb is too slow loading when one is on a 56k connection and also given it's nature probably ought to be a gif at around one tenth the size.
Ok thanks. Sorry we were just in a hurry yesterday as it was the end of the day and someone just saw the problem. Here is the problem we are experiencing...
In all of the mozilla based browsers if you look at any of the pages through the links to the left especially ones like Information or Activities when you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see that it is for some reason breaking out of the box. or the outer div.
I have removed all of the fixed heights as suggested by the experts last time around. The funny thing is that it worked last time. As far as the DTD we have not gotten that far yet. The one we have is just temporary. It should be updated today I believe.
Hey thank you for your help and quick reply. Sorry we were kind of panicking yesterday. Lots to do and not that many days left.
Understood, it's not amusing when a layout one thought was finished and stable decides to fall apart.
It's the height 100% that's the problem especially as it has no reference height in the body, try removing it and see how the page behaves.
The first consideration should be how your serving up a page which starts with a DTD, I can think of no benefit to having anything temporary in this respect . It really needs to be a full one from the off.
Ok i thought we had removed that portion of code. I have also put in the clearfix that you mentioned. There is one more problem. Now the dashed border that seperates the left column from the main column has disapeared. I am not sure why. I am an ASP programmer not a CSS expert so all of the help you can give is much appreciated. Working on the DTD now by the way.
Oh the page that best representes what I am talking about is the Information page.
I've just noticed that although you have written in the clearfix rule to the style sheet it looks as though you may have declared it as an ID in the html rather than a class.
Still Having Issues...
I reset it so that it is now <div class="clearfix mcol">
I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
The border is still not there.
Now one of our restricted ASP pages did not get the clearfix code inserted and it displays fine with firefox.
Finally got it working. I think that someone may have downloaded a previous version to the stylesheet because I took all of the fixed heights out. I really appreciate all of your help!
You still need to fix the doctype.
As I Said...
We are currently updating all of our files. I know we have to and the next time we update the servers we will also update it with the new doctypes. As I had previously stated.
Thanks PH, but I have mentioned the DTD twice and from rikishipabst's
comments feel satisfied that the matter will be taken in hand and is understood and find it slightly unnecessary and indeed probably a little irritating for rikishipabst to have to hear mention of it for a third time.
