Basically I want to automatically make all links and images act as if they have a "../" in front of them. That way I can publish to an ../archive folder and have my images and links not become dead, but rather read from the ../images directory. Any way to do this via .htaccess or css or something similar?

how to make images/links read from directory above?

You can specify the base URI in the HTML (w3c stuff about it)

<HEAD>
<BASE href="http://www.aviary.com/products/intro.html">
</HEAD>

Worth remembering that this will affect ALL links in your document.
