is it possible to show the content of a block in a scrolling way, like the iframes, but without having to modify the entire content of that block ?!

some guys in my community are interested to have a shoutbox but without the use of a iframe, and i know that sometimes, a css can be used for that, but in a specific content (pure text)... is it possible with textstyles, icons and tabs ?!

Using CSS instead of iframe for a shoutbox/tagboard

Hi Nexia,
Here's a script that uses CSS and JavaScript, it might do part of what you want.
http://www.dhtmlcentral.com/script/script4_demo.html
You would have to modify it or find another to get it to scroll automatically.

You can use the CSS overflow property.

http://www.devguru.com/Technologies/css/quickref/css_overflow.html

Not sure how well it is supported.

cheers

Using CSS instead of iframe for a shoutbox/tagboard

The Javascript version is excellent, but is there any way that I can write the 'test text' in another file and have the script import that text for use in the scrolling area?

The idea would be so that another user only has to update the seperate file, which is then imported into the script upon update.

Guru

you're all so cute

Why do you use a standard technology like css, if you use ie-only javascript code ??? The javascript above doesn't work fine at all !

Please, please, when checking your pages, don't rely on your only own selfish browser internet-crap-explorer.

Sorry not to have any more idea to solve your problem, though.

lagroue:

Please make sure you know what you're talking about before spouting your opinions off.

I just checked the source code, and not only did the author write his JavaScript to deal with DOM browsers, but also non-DOM compliant ones (read: older browsers).

It works fine for me on Safari, IE5, Camino, NN7, Mozilla, etc.

And also, do you really think that dhtmlcentral would let someone's script be posted if it only worked with IE? Get real.
