Finally the logo competition for CSS Creator is underway. You can view the details Logo comp at 99designs

The competition is only open for a week so please submit your logo designs as soon as possible. If design is not your thing you can still provide feedback here on your favorite designs and help me to choose a winner.

The redevelopment of the site is going well I have incorporated most of the suggestions from the Sometime this year post. Now I am very keen to get stuck into the design and theming with a nice new logo.

Thinking about Wolfie's I really like the # in the front specially since it signifies "the One" or id. I don't really care if they can't pronounce it at least they will think about it. I'd probably just go with the #CSSCreator without any of extras and have the # exaggerated.

I actually didn't realise quite how clever Wolfie's .com was at first - but it's a stroke of genius really. I'd go with the whole thing for the site and T-shirt and just use the #CSSCreator bit as your badge for other sites. You could also ask him to try it on a different text colour on a coloured background to not end up with red, white and blue Smile

Current favourites - Wolfie #49 and shel1009 #151 and #171

While shel009 may not have the ability to tweak the text just right, I'm sure Tyssen or one of the guys would do it for a dollar or two Wink

Smee the colour did change, maybe you need to color the parts as separate image then combine them. I added other comments to your posts at 99designs.

Laughing out loud They are patched together but I made the check background so long ago I've forgotten how to colour it. However I'll try and lighten it up later today or tonight now I've got the registered program.

This thing finishes 9am your time tomorrow is that right?

And by-the-by....you guys do realise some of them are reading this thread don't you? Clever Cookies Wink

Yeah I hope some of them are

Yeah I hope some of them are reading this as they will get ideas. Mind you I think many of them have English as a second language. When I suggest to stay away from Orange and Lime green we got more of them

I'm beginning to think Wolfie has gone back to his lair for the winter. Do wolves have lairs or dens?

Seems to be more copying going on, colors from #177 look very much like #174

I think some of them should try to sell their designs a little by explaining the choices they made in the comments.

Yes I thought that about

Laughing out loud Yes I thought that about the lime and orange too but it's how we got the green and gold and the thicker text on shel009 Wink

I think you need to comment to Wolfie on 99designs and he'll get and email (I did) - don't rely on him reading this.

By the way, remember this?

Well it could look like this courtesy of my new program...

but I obviously can't put it up over at 99designs Sad

Just something else for you to mull over Smile

And Wolfie's could look like this....

@smee

Ooh, now I like those bank-like colours with wolf's design (dunno about the smiley tho).

Green and gold signify trust, finance, and corporate professionalism. Prolly why lots of banks around here use the off-green and orange, like ABM-Amro/LaSalle (too bad the colours didn't reflect the bank correctly lawls).

The green and gold are

The green and gold are actually Australia's official colours...despite the flag  I don't think I associate the colour combination with anything else though.

Hmmm...might have to rethink it for the forum after all Laughing out loud

Well, what colours would people like to see it in?

Okay, I finally managed to

Okay, I finally managed to get the maroon check up with a reasonable approximation of the colour - the concept explanation is up there too.

ETA:
Hartgraphic finally got the 3D going on #187 - which I think looks good enough to go in with my other two choices - but stuck it together in the process, does it need a little "air" between the letters?

And #192's good too.

Hmm rather like #186, #189,

Hmm rather like #186, #189, #191

Smee your cog on maroon background is not bad either Smile

I think #186 is good too

I think #186 is good too Hugo but I keep thinking it looks better on black and do we want a black banner? Means the accent colour would have to be used quite a bit to relieve it. On the other hand I'd like #191 better without the person and how would the rest of it work across 1024 x 120 or would it be in the left corner with a lot of blue sky to the right?...dunno...I glad it's Tony's problem!

On the other hand I found the purrrfect image that Tony was describing earlier - see attached }:)

Aaaw...that's very sweet of you to say so but apart from the maroon and cream ones I mainly did that and the turquoise+white to try and give them some more ideas for colour. I have no illusions and know that I'm outclassed by a country mile here Smile I keep thinking my rendition looks like a bottle top Laughing out loud

However I've just seen Wolfie logon, watcha doin' Wolfie? where's that second entry you promised? Mind you the current one has gained a lot of cudos Smile

I'm still here - lurking in

I'm still here - lurking in the woods just out of site, ready to pounce... Wink

I'm both happy and surprised my design has as much attention as it does. I did put some thought into it but I'm not a designer. The csscreator was intentionally an id as Tony stated meaning one (and only) and I thought the .com fit perfectly as descendant class. The bracket, semicolon, bracket are obviously part of the declaration block (colon being omitted) and continue the ruleset. The parenthesis is a different color on purpose - in fact I more intended it to be a 'hand drawn' swoosh - as if someone came by and added that to show a smiley (depicting the community). Originally I thought the smiley itself could be the logo with the site name next to it (like Tyssen drew up) and later thought to use the whole ruleset.

I've been busy writing a paper for school but have been doodling other revisions and designs. I have a couple pages full of them! I'll devote a little time to produce a few more and who knows, I just might win!

edit// Oh, and Tony, my first attempt had the # emphasized but it didn't look right to me, I'll revisit that as well.

Good-oh! We were beginning to think we'd lost you for a minute Smile

You deserve it, it's very clever and experienced webbies everywhere would no doubt think so if that were our header Smile

Hope you've got enough time left and finished your paper!

ETA:
Since you've already seen me mucking about with your masterpiece, here's another version attached. You could think about putting the actual smiley face in Smile

Wolfie I'm glad your still

Wolfie I'm glad your still around, I imagine you are right about the # looking wrong emphasized.

Smee chrome looks good in full colour but would be hard to print on a t-shirt with limited colors.

It is going to be hard to decide just one winner.

Tongue good luck with that, it's like an overcrowded restaurant menu, I can never make my mind up Sad

Tony time to get ruthless; go back in and eliminate all but four stars and above and maybe time to set a few five stars on those that you think are your absolute favs.

I've done a major cull, and

I've done a major cull, and eliminated anything with 3 stars or below.
Since it's 1:00 am I'm going to bed, tomorrow I will work through them more closely.
After the comp closes in about 8 hours I'd like to get some more feedback from on your favorite designs. Maybe I'll start another topic as this is getting a bit long and we can each pick our top 3.

Yes start a new thread;

Yes start a new thread; request people submit their top 3 favourites, but also describe a set of criteria that ought to be applied to the choices people make, e.g any logos rich in shaded areas and or metallic style finish will not convert well to a printed logo for purposes of T-shirts and any other principles that the designers amongst us can suggest.

Not necessarily true I think but Tyssen or someone would know. For the chrome in the attached, you would simply pick a grey that prints well on both a black and a white T-shirt and print just the text in grey and yellow with the border line underneath - or whatever colour you want the smiley-wink. This holds also for designs like shel009's so don't discount them on that account - the printed colour is always flat for paper, T-shirts. But for business cards, mugs etc could print the slab of tan behind it if you wanted

But chrome is just grey when used in print - or with digital printing, which is the easy way to print, they just print whatever you give them and it could come out with the glow and shading etc. See attached Wink

It's actually laughable to see others copying him with random stuff and who don't know how clever that line of code is!

Okay, done and dusted and

Okay, done and dusted and things just got a LOT harder! Smile I decided to put up my last one because I think the C's make it sufficiently different Wink

Aaarrrgh!! Tony I can't

Aaarrrgh!! Tony I can't believe you eliminated #223 so fast - it's good! Colours can be negotiated later if that's what put you off. Can you un-eliminate it?

Imagine how things like #198 are going to look on a pen, for instance.

I like the colors of #223

I like the colors of #223 but the logo didn't make sense.

#198 I'm not an expert in this area but I think it would work all right printed with just a few colors. Can't imagine many printed on a pen, my imagination only went as far as t-shirts and coffee mugs.

Ah...you see it made instant sense to me. While I'd like to see a rounder and more matching text for "creator", they used a nice rounded C to stop it being too futuristic but the Superman styled SS instantly said "Super CSS" to me Smile

The greyscale is okay I guess but the coloured ones look like a ball of string...sorry Sad

Now I've gotta run.
