Hello I am designing a site for the military Regiment that I am in. The browser that we are using for the military intranet is IE6 and so I designed the site for that. Unfortunately, anyone viewing it with IE 7/8 will not see it correctly. I am not at all profficient in CSS so I would welcome any help.

Thanks, Dan

Validate your code. CSS is

Validate your code.

CSS is dependent on well coded and formatted HTML to work as expected.

does validating code make it

does validating code make it work cross browser and within IE6-8? I thought I would have to have some extra code written so that the css would display in IE7/8.

I will validate...

Actually, you write the

Actually, you write the valid markup and css to work with modern, standards compliant browsers, then add a bit to make it work in lousy, obsolete browsers like IE6/7.

By using a good browser like Firefox as your primary test bed, you ensure the code is good, giving you a solid foundation to work with. This is true even if the target audience uses IE6. It is usually trivial to deal with IE 6, if the code is good. If the code is written for IE6, it can be a royal PITA to make modern browsers work right.

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.
