Hello all, I am new to CSS coding but I have decided to dive right in and create a new table-free XHTML/CSS site. I figured I would start with the main nav bar, but I am already experienceing major problems with WinIE. Both the CSS and XHTML validate fine.

See here:

I code on a Mac and this code displays perfectly in Safari. I know part of the problem is that IE does not properly display PNG transperancy. I guess the best fix for that is to use Gif's. What I can't figrue our is why the elements do not line up.

Also, I would like to have the background color of the links change on a: hover, but I can't figure out how to extend the background change across the entire width of the containing box. Any thoughts?

Sorry if these are newbie questions. You can just ignore me if I'm being a complete idiot.

Does anybody have any advice about the alignment issues this page seems to be having?
