It really was too hard to look at without styles.

I don't see the point of it
I don't see the point of it at all, since any educated user can see any site without the CSS with two or three mouse clicks in most browsers.
I think its cool to see the web programming community doing something together to help encourage n00bs to learn and write properly structured semantic code. Surprisingly, its not just n00bs that need realism about how how their hard work looks and functions without styles. I feel it's an excellent exercise.
