I have a tic tac toe pattern. 3 columns 3 up for a total of 9 squares. I'm looking at having the bottom three columns expand to fill a browser window while keeping the top two rows the same.

The only way I could get this to properly fill from 'top of bottom row' to off the 'bottom of the screen' was to specify a specific height in pixels. This has the unfortunate side effect of creating a scrollbar in IE. Plus, if someone is using a huge resolution, it will end up showing blank space at the bottom. I prefer not to have this happen. These column boxes will be substituted with images that I'll want to be able to stretch.

Does anyone here know how to properly fill the bottom of the screen with the three bottom columns (imagining the images in place)?!?
