Has anyone tried the beta yet?
I am interested in checking it out, but I am much too lazy to screw with my partitions to run it as a dual boot.
If you try it out, let us know how it works out.
You could try it on Virtual
You could try it on Virtual PC.
They still market the dam
They still market the dam thing to home users, this is a beta site so one presumes techie types will be visiting and running the betas yet I'm told how sharing pictures and videos is even easier, I want tech specs, W7 was supposed to be a complete rewrite , once and for all shedding all the legacy support that has held them back.
Might just dowmload and run as a virtual machine to have a peek.
I've heard from another that
I've heard from another that it is a lot faster then Vista but still has all those silly "Aero" graphics.
I might have to open it up and take a peek... maybe...
It couldn't be slower!
It couldn't be slower! Vista isn't bad but there is some god awful speed bottleneck somewhere, and not just due to Aero graphics, which sometimes aren't that silly, vista can do smart things with folder/file views.
I've VMed it and it does
I've VMed it and it does seem faster than Vista. Don't really see too many obvious differences though. A few more flashy, visual interface things and better handling of notifications. IE8 beta's also got a much better developer toolbar; it's pretty close to Firebug now.
It's the first time I've looked at it and it seems to have a couple of odd quirks. For instance, I'm running Dean Edwards' IE8.js on a site to get support for all CSS2.1 selectors, but last-child doesn't work unless you turn IE8.js on for IE8 (i.e, instead of lte IE7, lte IE 8 in the cc), when I thought IE8.js was supposed to emulate IE8's CSS/DOM support for IE7 and lower.
EDIT: It's got one feature that I've been longing to have for ages and that's the ability to reorder the tabs/icons to programs in the taskbar and also to pin certain programs there. I have a set of programs I use each day and like to have them appear in a certain order; this means I can start Windows with them already in place (just have to click on them to launch) and if any quit unexpectedly, I can put them back into their correct order again.
NICE! i got a copy of W7Beta

I have it on my laptop. I installed it just to play. All my programs are working fine on it and I also have been waiting for a long time for Microsoft to allow us to reorder the task bar.
I have found IE8 to be a little bit annoying. There are still so many sites that bomb out on it. It probably isn't IE8's fault, but because it is supposed to be more web standard compliant it isn't very forgiving.
So far I am very happy with my Windows 7 experience.

IE8 with Windows 7 is the beta version and not the latest release candidate so you can expect it to be more buggy than it should.
