Hi! I wanted to put my new theme called "Polar" online as of today but won't. It doesn't show on Amaya and Netscape 4.08 for Windows and crashes Navigator 4.04 for Mac completely... Sad

Not mentioning a couple of other gliches on various browsers. It's looking good on Konqueror, Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows, Opera 7.51 for Windows and FireFox 1.0 PR.

Would you mind a look? I've compiled a couple of screenshots on my website, you can see the "live" version after registering on my site and choosing the "Polar Layout" (Einstellungen -> My Settings -> Ansicht ändern).

It would be really neat, could you post your suggestions. Maybe even by commenting the screenshots themselves? There's a "Kommentar hinzufügen" on each of them.

Thanks a lot // René!

Right, don't know how to put this...
I think the best way to go about this is to just say what came into my mind when I saw it please don't take offence:

- Borring (it might have fantastic CSS but the style was just so plain!)
- Polar says to me: whites, blues, metallics, silver maybe a bit of purple or even green?
- The menus did not stand out
- I did not get straight away what the site was about.
- Logo font is good but the inner bevel terrible. It is also to close to the top of the page.
- ATTENTION TO DETAIL is what makes a site interesting and visually appealing try and get some nice details in.

What I sujest:
- Get some sharper colours in like silvers or even a nice gradient light blues.
- Logo maybe white embossed with a metallic blue behind
- Menus bigger font and maybe some kind of item next to them like arrow or line down the side??? something to make them stand out.
- Pictures put padding round them!
- Get your rollover colours and link colours right! Red does not say polar to me. Maybe electric blue or even pink to add a bit of contrast.

Oh God I am sorry!
I hope this helps.

But on the other side of all the comments I have just made, if you are trying to achieve a simple plain programmer site then this is pretty much spot on. Jacob Nielson would love it I am certain.

Must go.
Good luck.
Sorry again.

Thank's for the comments! As a matter of fact, I am a programmer and not a webdesigner. I did "Polar" only because my webdesigner couldn't finish his design for a couple of months...

On the other hand: Do you have any suggestions, why the whole mess crashes netscape completely? I'm mainly writing because I'd like to get a working version on all platforms. And I guess, "Polar" is better than the current "rck2004", isn't it?

I might want to do a "Polar 2" one day, based on your input, though. First I have to get the compatibility right!

Thank you again // René!

You have probably guessed that I have not got much of a clue about programming but do know about web design... Laughing out loud I just try and give some feedback where I can help while getting some help with my CSS problems... That is a long time for a site design couple of months??? you already have the layout! humm?

Had a second look and no clue sorry. Maybe a script that times out?
I recently had a problem with a javascript cookie tracker...

that's what I'd call synergy. well, the javascript stuff hasn't changed between the layouts, it must be a css issue then.

it's because he didn't like the table based template and doing every single template by himself would be simly overkill... well, I've got a css template now (called w3c), this might motivate him again Smile

why not finish it?

Have you had a look at http://css-discuss.incutio.com/?page=ThreeColumnLayouts

It might help looking at other codes?
