Backgound: I was commissioned to revamp a local company's site as they asked me to critique their previous version and I gave it a failing grade. Tables based layout, invalid markup, static pages, looked like a frontpage nightmare (it was created in frontpage4), no CSS at all, site doesn't show on google even when typing the full company name, etc. It turns out that one of the fellows that works at the company as a skilled laborer created and hosted the site. The template was chosen by the company and I was just asked to fit the PSD to the web site.

I delivered the site last week and asked them to change the DNS to our server. I got a call from the fellow that made the old site and he wanted to give me the domain name and wash his hand of the whole ordeal. I couldn't tell if he was angry or not, it just seemed like he wanted out and to never hear about it again. I told him I don't care who registered the domain or where it's managed I just want the DNS pointers aiming at my server. I had my tech director call him.

Apparently, the fellow went off his nut and gave the tech director an ear full. "Your flash crap is leading this company down the wrong path". There is no flash on the new page. None. Besides when did frontpage become better than flash? Laughing out loud

I honestly feel terrible for the guy for losing the hosting account and web master position but what can I do? I replaced his outdated site with something valid and modern with a custom CMS that needs no web master. Quite frankly his outburst about us using flash (which was also told to the owner) makes him look a bit childish. I'm sure there were some things I could have done better but not at the price they were willing to pay. They got off cheap. Real cheap.

I don't know. I didn't intend to take his position away but it's for the company's good as he just doesn't know what he was doing. It just made me a bit uncomfortable. I guess I shouldn't because I'd expect someone better than me to be able to take the job from me.

Sorry if this is random. Smile Rant machine, off!

As long as the company

As long as the company agrees that the "webmaster" is acting childish, then you should be just fine!

Google isn't a bunch of guys reading and grading web sites, it's more like a bunch of monkeys sniffing food and putting the good bananas at the top. -Triumph

Triumph - what you're

Triumph - what you're describing is the essence of commerce and is the way things move onward and upward an' all that. It's just business and there's nothing wrong with that because you're being honest and up front in your dealings. Don't give it another moment's thought - happy Christmas Smile

Life's a b*tch and then you die!

Yes, of course you're correct. If it weren't someone that works there I wouldn't have ever blinked. Smile

I'm sure I'll see him again. Shock
