I'm not sure if this is the proper term but I have a class called:
".home_bullet_features"
I want to apply a additional attribute to only list items that carrying this class. What is the proper terminology for naming this.
I had thought it might be ".home_bullet_features li" but that doesn't work

list items with that class would be targeted with li.home_bullet_features { }
The css you showed would target list items inside of something with class="home_bullet_features".

The name took but I'm not accomplishing what I wanted to do which is to increase the space between list item lines. I just tried adding some bottom padding to li.home_bullet_features but that didn't do it. Do I also need to create a class called ul.home_bullet_features ?. Also, are these in fact "subclasses"?

The entire site is screwed up and needs to be redone eliminating tables but that is not happening for at least a month or so and in the meantime the li's that have "home_bullet_features" applied need to be separated further.

In your questions you asked how to target list items carrying that class but no list items carry that class in your markup.
Please show all your markup or better yet, a link. Do you have a complete doctype?

No the class is applied to
No the class is applied to the table cell that contains the the UL. I thought I could still control these list items somehow as they have taken the other attributes of "home_bullet_features". This is not the way I would build this now but I'm stuck with it for the time being.

You shouldn't use tables for layout.
You should follow the advice above and spend some time going through the HTMLDOG.COM tutorials and learning how to code valid/semantic sites from the get go.

From the HTML you've posted, .home_bullet_features li would be the correct way to target those list items in your CSS. If it's not working, it's possible that those list items are picking up styles with greater specificity from somewhere else in your stylesheet which you haven't showed us.

Yep, specificity would be the next guess but I got fed up with guessing.
try html body table tr td div.home_bullet_features ul li {}
It'll still be trumped by an ID

That is what I did figure out and that does work correctly with padding applied.
.home_bullet_features li { padding-bottom: 5px; padding-right: 3px;
"li.home_bullet_features" does not work, as was suggested above
Also, for anyone reading my original post and question, this is called a "Descendant Selector"
And as I mentioned previously a few times, tables is not the way to go but I'm stuck with it in this case for a little while longer.
