I'm trying to upload a new picture (avatar) from a local file on my desktop. After browsing to the new picture, and then clicking Submit, I get this error (in a little red box on the site):

* The selected file /tmp/tmp_55OHZQ could not be copied.
* Failed to upload the picture image; the pictures directory doesn't exist or is not writable.

My image is a 19.5 kb .jpg.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Maybe the thingie you're

Maybe the thingie you're uploading to looks for that file extension. /tmp/tmp_55OHZQ -- I didn't see a .jpg there.

Besides, does that mean you're losing teh Ninja??

I'm no expert, but I fake one on teh Internets

The "/tmp/tmp_550HZQ"

The "/tmp/tmp_550HZQ" reference must come from CSS Creator's server. I don't have any directories like that on my computer. (I tried from work, just to be sure.) I even put the .jpg right in the root of c:\ to simply things, and still got the same error.

Yeah, the Ninja's on the way out. (Hopefully; maybe she just doesn't want to go...) I've decided to improve my "web branding" with an actual real picture. Crazy, huh?

Try deleting your original

Try deleting your original image first rather than uploading a new one, start as though this was a first time upload, not sure if that will change things but seem to dimly remember some odd issues where this process is concerned, if that doesn't work you'll have to wait for Tony to take a look in detail.

Hi Katie, I tried with the

Hi Katie,
I tried with the jpg twice without luck, same error as you.
Then converted it to a png and it worked.
It's not very logical, I can't see any reason why the jpg shouldn't have worked.
I hope the png is alright, it looks fine to me.

Hi Tony, I can confirm that

Hi Tony,

I can confirm that .jpg images don't upload as avatars. In my case, the upload failed quietly, with no error message. I converted the image to .png, and the upload worked. Are your allowed file types set too narrow? My previous avatar was a .jpg

cheers,

gary

If your web page is as clever as you can make it, it's probably too clever for you to debug or maintain.

Hi Gary, jpg and jpeg are

Hi Gary,
jpg and jpeg are allowed in the settings so it must be something else causing the problem.
Possibly one of the system upgrades changed something.

I have checked through the logs and couldn't find anything helpful.
