Hey guys- I have a question, maybe someone can help me. Please go to

http://tostage.sv.publicus.com//apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=NEWS09

I created the interactive main story navigation. It looks great in Firefox, but in IE the top nav options ( Latest News, Sports, Business ) start to descend. Any ideas why this is happening? Am I missing something small? Please help me out!!

Thanks!

Lindsay

Looks the same to me in

Looks the same to me in Firefox and IE6/7.

Your page barely loads for me in IE6 or 7 though. It seems like it's tripping up on some of the script.

When I try to validate your page, I get 617 errors and 22 warnings: http://validator.w3.org/

Tables are for displaying data, not for layout. CSS should be used for layout.

Comments before the DOCTYPE throw IE into quirks mode: "Quirks mode in IE 6, and in later versions of IE, will also be triggered if anything but whitespace precedes the DOCTYPE. For example, if a hypertext document contains a comment or any tag before the DOCTYPE, quirks mode will be triggered in IE 6 and also in IE 7 and IE 8 beta:"

Tables

I know, I didn't design this site, I just came into this position so I am working with what I have. I have asked several people and they say they do not see the problem either. So I have attached screen shots of what I am seeing. wrong.jpg is in IE right.jpg is in Firefox. So does anyone know what could be causing this shift in position?

Amost, but taken out of it's

Amost, but taken out of it's context this sentence is slightly inaccurate

Quote:

if a hypertext document contains a comment or any tag before the DOCTYPE, quirks mode will be triggered in IE 6 and also in IE 7 and IE 8 beta:"

No, 'any' tag will not trigger 'quirks' in IE7/8, however most tags will, the problem with the xml declaration is corrected or at least fudged over so that it doesn't trip IE into quirks mode, which is stated in the paragraph following on in the wiki entry

It's a bit of an outdated wiki page in it's reference to the soon to be released IE7 Smile

If you're talking about a 1

If you're talking about a 1 to 2 pixel difference, it might not be worth it.

You could start by fixing this serious error of the meta tag not closed out:
