Hi all,

I've created a drop down menu. My problem is the menu item on the far right is short by 1 pixel, but only in certain browsers on certain operating systems!

IE.

FireFfox (Mac), Safari (Mac), Safari (Win) - Fine
IE (Win - what a surprise), FireFox (Win), Opera (Win), Chrome (Win) - NOT fine, 1 pixel out!

Anyone know why this is happening?

URL is http://www.outlookimages.co.uk/v6/

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Ed,

Thanks for the reply Ed, Actually I solved the problem by using a table layout instead of a div layout.

If it works it works. On a side note, why would a div based layout have been better?

False dichotomy!

The alternative to table based layouts is not div based layout! Both are about equally bad. The alternative is html for semantic markup, CSS for presentation and layout, javascript for behaviours. In other words, separation of the concerns of markup, styling/layout, and behaviour.

This has been covered all over the web and a straightforward google search should get you to some interesting discussion, not to mention some browsing through this very forum. Note that it is not tables that are bad, they are prefectly proper markup for tabular data.

The modern methods do take time, effort, and thought to learn, but when learned will quickly save you far more time and effort than you spent to learn them. You can stay with outmoded methods if you wish - it's your life and feel free to live it your way. But they are, nevertheless, outmoded methods.
