I have lots of tabular data on my site... and I was creating multiple table id's to handle this... but since most of the tables are pretty much the same I thought I could switch em to classes so they could be re-used without generating errors when validating.
But now.. my link attributes no longer work unless I have them in an ID.
Here's what I've been doing which works
/* contact us page*/
table#contactus {width: 550px; border:0;border-collapse: collapse;
border-spacing: 0;}
table#contactus a:link {font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none;}
with the html of <table id="contactus">

so here's what I thought I could do so I could reuse a table multiple time on the same page if need be
table.common {width:550px;border:0;
border-collapse: collapse;border-spacing: 0;border: solid #347879 1px;}
table.common td {text-indent:0.5em;
padding:1px; border: solid #347879 1px;}
table.common a:link {font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none;}
<table class="common">

What am I missing here?

descendent selectors - link properties?

DOH... the tables sit in the content div which has a link properties set for the content area..

Need to set something for the common table in contents
#contents table.common a:link {font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none;color:yellow;}
